THE MIDI FILES ON THIS DISK *********************************** AM/FM *********************************** First some general info about the files and file formats. The following text was also printed in AM/FM #1, so if you read it there, just skip a page down. Some of the files are stored as plain old ".MIDI" files, that means they should be able to load into just about any decent sequencer program available, not only on the Amiga, but also on other home computers, like IBM-clone PC's, Atari ST, Apple MacIntosh etc. Of course, in order to load the files on another computer, you will need to transfer the files to a disk format that these computers can read, for instance to load the .MIDI files on a PC, you will need to use Dos-2-Dos, CrossDos or another "disk-translator". Unfortunately, all these programs are copyrighted, so we can't put them on AM/FM. If we knew of one that was in the Public Domain, we would include it here, so if anyone have heard of any, please let us know. Anyway, back to the MIDI files. Some of the pieces are stored as Music-X Performance files, so you can just load them directly into Music-X. We are aware that there is a .MIDI to Music-X converter program that comes with Music-X, but when these performances go through the .MIDI conversion and back, they tend to lose bits here and there, especially when they're built up with a Control Sequence in Music-X. So we chose to bring you these songs in both .MIDI and Music-X formats. If you are using Music-X, and I believe the majority of Amiga/MIDI users are, you should load the Music-X performance and just forget about the .MIDI version. The Music-X version is the one that ends with ".MX". Now, let's get on with it... *********************************** AM/FM *********************************** In the Air Tonight - by Phil Collins Stored on the disk both as Music-X performance and .MIDI file. -------------------------------------------------------------- That old wonderful mega-hit by Phil Collins hits your Amiga, although, we must admit, in a strongly simplified version. But then, who wants the job converting Phil's drum playing style to MIDI format?? Thanks to Jan Vegard Veiseth for this one, who computerized it, using Sequencer+ on a PC. We here at AM/FM converted it to a format we could live with, removed Jan Vegard's Program Changes and brought it to you. Channel 1 - Piano Channel 2 - Soft lead sound Channel 3 - More piano Channel 4 - Bass Channel 10 - drums. (Note 36: Bassdrum, Note 38: Snare, Note 42: Hihat) (The drum bar repeats all the way through) Suggested effect: Long, thick reverb. *********************************** AM/FM *********************************** Simple piece for El-piano - by Bjorn A. Lynne Stored on the disk both as Music-X performance and .MIDI file. -------------------------------------------------------------- This piece is really very simple, and doesn't exactly qualify to be referred to as a "song", that's why it hasn't really got any name, besides "A simple piece for El-piano". We included this piece for those of you who don't have a lot of synthesizers or multi-tibral synth modules - maybe you only have one little keyboard, well this piece is especially for you guys. It only uses MIDI channel 1, and only one sound which should be an El-piano sound with a fast attack. I suppose you can use an acoustic piano sound as well. MIDI SETUP: Channel 1 - El-piano Suggested effect: None, or short reverb *********************************** AM/FM *********************************** AUTOPLAY - by no one in particular Stored on the disk only as .MIDI file. (Because of limited diskspace) Use "MusicX-to-MIDI" to convert it to Music-X file ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Now this is a strange one. It is actually a MIDI recording of one of those synthesizers that are pre-programmed to play a little demo-piece, a light mix of all kinds of music styles. It plays for quite a long while, although most of the small "tunes" only plays a few seconds each - 2 or 4 bars on each of them. Thanks to Espen Beranek for this one. *********************************** AM/FM *********************************** FATHER'S SONG - by Prince Stored on the disk both as Music-X performance and .MIDI file. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This song is a mellow piano-piece written by Prince in the Purple Rain period. It wasn't presented on the Purple Rain album, but I believe it was released as a B-side of a single. Prince fans will recognise the main theme of "Computer Blue" in this song. MIDI setup: Channel 1 - Acoustic piano (or as close as you can get) Channel 2 - Soft strings, but with a relatively fast attack Suggested effect: Medium reverb *********************************** AM/FM ***********************************
